We talked about prayer in our worship service this past Sunday and we will continue on that topic this coming Sunday. If you read the book of Mark, you are struck with the sense that Jesus spent time in solitude (look here for an example). He felt the need to get away and focus on communication with God.
Now if Jesus felt the need to spend time alone with God, how can we think that we could possibly live the way we know we should live if we don’t do the same? Time alone with God in prayer and scripture reading are the foundation for living and growing in our relationship with God.
So where do you go to be alone with God? What do you do when you are in that place?
I would love to hear your response – who knows, it might make it into the sermon this week.
Thanks for reading!

Sadly, a lot of the time in my life prayer is talked about a lot more than actually done. “We need to pray about that” too often takes the place of actually praying. One thing I learned in India is that prayer doesn’t need to be talked about, it needs to be done! I’m trying to make that happen in my life.
Great post! Thanks for posting it.
WoW! Thank you for such a thought provoking website. This is the first time I’ve read your blog and I am so blessed by it. My life requires that I’m in”constant contact” with my Lord just to sustain, however the quality of solitude with him is lacking. I will make an extra effort to “stop” and spend time in prayer as he is always telling me to ‘be still”. Thank you for being such a blessing. I look forward to your insight.
Sincerely,
Debbie (Campbell) Smith
I wake-up in the morning and spend time in God’s Word then I go walk and talk with God in the cotton fields behind our house…there is something about getting alone oustside with HIm and not rushing into His presence. I usually spend the first 10 minutes just in worship thinking on who He is…my new favorite name of His is El Rapha – MY Healer (body and soul). I have found that talking to God outloud has rocked my relationship with Him ESPECIALLY when I pray scripture. Romans 10:17 says faith comes by hearing the Word. God’s Word has such extreme POWER when we pray it outloud b/c it never returns void. I love to pray Paul’s Prayers in Eph 1, Eph 3, Phil 1, and Col 1. Then the last 10 minutes of my “conversation” with God I am just quiet. That is when He always speaks to me. People, things, or scripture will come to mind during that time and I know those are the things He wants me to do that day. Sometimes the things He shows me in those last few minutes are so incredibly amazing I just have to shout out and start running. It is amazing.
The books that have changed how I look at prayer include: Prayers that Avail Much, What do to when faith seems weak and victory lost, Fresh Wind Fresh Fire, This Present Darkness, and The Hiding Place.
God Bless YOu Brian!!!
